About Troop 49
When we got started
Scouting was established in the United States in 1910, and our Troop was formed in 1947. We have been scouting strong for 75+ years!
Where do we meet
All scouting units are associated with a chartering organization that sponsors them: provides meeting facilities and approves the selection of leaders. Troop 49 is chartered by Grace Episcopal Church in Norwood, MA.
Scouts BSA does not define the specifics of any particular religion except to say that faith should be part of it. Scouts BSA encourages its members to actively practice their own religious faith. Scouting is a non-denominational religious and educational institution, and all faiths are welcome.
You do not have to be a member of Grace Church to join Troop 49.
Our members
Troop 49's members are from Norwood and the surrounding towns. Our scouts are aged 11-17 years old.
We currently are a Boy Troop, but hope to establish a Girl Troop this year.
Our Philosophy
We work hard, play hard! Our scouts accomplish a lot. They work on their advancement and merit badges weekly. On the weekends, holiday breaks and in the summer, they enjoy camping, escape rooms, hiking mountains, white-water rafting, treks at Philmont, sailing at Sea Base, Summer camp at Yawgoog Scout Reservation, and much more!
Our Community Involvement
We are active members of the community. Annually participating in the Scouting for Food food drive to benefits the Ecumenical Food Pantry.
You may also have seen a few of our Eagle Projects around town - Norwood Trail markers, restored graves at the Old Parish Cemetery, playground enrichment at the Cleveland Elementary School, handicap accessible picnic tables on Summer on Central, just to name a few.
Our Family
Troop 49 is not an independent organization, we rely on our partners to make us strong.
Troop 49 is in the Metacomet District and part of the Mayflower Council that supports scouting in Greater Metro West and the South Shore.
We also partner with Cub Scout Pack 49 - which offers scouting to boys and girls in Norwood and surrounding towns from kindergarten to 5th grade - supporting each other in our journey in scouting.
